I am a long way from making this correct accelerator work in my 67

I have never been satisified with the rigged up gas pedal in my 67.The PO used a cable type pedal and did not cut out the carpet where the pivot pins go.They drilled a hole in the linkage and made a bracket and bolted the cable type pedal to it.I could not keep it tight.
I ordered a correct 67 pedal and cut out carpet where pivot pins were. The pins are at a very different angle and are not long enough to get the pedal to push on to them.Does the pedal go under the carpet?Does metal linkage rub on backside of pedal where the white spot is on top?
