Front end hub preload

I just installed 2 new spindles on my 77 K-20 (Dana 44). The reason I had to replace them was before I bought the truck, they had a brake job done to it and the tech. did not preload the alxe nuts.
I was told to snug the nuts up as if I was doing a 2wd hubs. I did just that and reinstalled the tires. Now with the truck off the ground if I can grab the tire (top and bottom) it moves in and out a little. I have only worked on 2wd in the past and if this were a 2wd I would go to the notch on the castelled nut, but on a 4wd I'm not sure what to do. Can anybody offer some input? Is there a set torque for a preload? Should it have a little movement?
Thanks,
Dana
