Winner Winner - Chicken Dinner....
Went to The Red List Truck Wars in Bakersfield this weekend. Ended up winning:
King of Trucks Fasted ET Fastest GM Towed down on Sat afternoon and it was HOT. My tow rig was showing temps in the 101-103* range. Once there I decided to run the Sat evening race (open to everything) for some test hits since I have never been to Bakersfield and the converter was recently tightened up. Truck was on the radial (315/60/15). Right off the trailer NA the truck hiccuped about 40' out and went 10.99 @ 124.5 with a 1.67 60' Pulled in to the pits and cleaned up a rich tune. Next pass NA let go of the brake and it fell on its face (almost stalled), lifted and hit it and it took off. Went 10.91 @ 124.6 with a high 1.7x 60' Truck ended up turning off on the return road. I tried starting it again and could hear the fuel pump freewheeling not building any fuel pressure ![]() ![]() Make another NA hit and truck responds well with a 10.7x @ 125mph. Decide to make one more hit in preparation for Sundays truck event and put a 200 hit on it. Being I was melting from the heat, I figured I would be conservative on the timing and pulled 12* of timing, I did not want the motor to feel the same pain I was. Set the N20 ramp at 50% initial and all in by .3 seconds. Truck went 9.60 @ 138.x with a 1.45 60'. As the gates opened on Sunday, I noticed most the trucks coming in were more towards the truck show and were on a true street tire. I decided I would be better off putting the big tire on (32x14.50) as I wasn't sure how well the track would fair. First pass was at 11am and it was already 90* out. I changed the N20 ramp to 100% out of the hole but kept the 200 hit in it with the same timing. Truck went 9.79 @ 138.x Second pass I pulled an additional 4* timing (16* total) and added the other kit for a total of 300 out of the hole. Truck went 9.49 @ 141.x with a slight lean spike out of the hole causing the PCM to pull another 3.5* timing for for 1.2 seconds. Got back to the pits and added fuel on the hit with no other changes. Truck got loose about 60' out but staid straight, pass was feeling a bit faster than the last. Truck popped twice right as I crossed the traps and shut off. I coasted to the return road, went to restart it and had now power, all electrical is out. Walked to the time booth 50' away and the timers has a fault and no slip printed. Being it was 2:45 and the event was over at 4:00, I towed it back and called it a day. All in all I am happy with how the truck ran, but I think a cool can will be the next upgrade since I don't class race. Also going to have to pull the verter and likely move to a 9" from the 8.5" I have now. I will look a the electrical in the next week of so. First time getting any prize money, $500 in total. That made me happy ![]()
