no horn

can anyone help me with wiring up my horn I just purchased a 1969 c10 step side SWB and I am removing and older Grant steering wheel and adding a new one. the old wheel had no working horn and pieces missing like the cancel cam for instance. I am trying to get the new wheel horn to work properly. I am wiring the horn from the battery to the horn out of the horn to wiring harness using the black wire going to the signal switch because there are no wire someone cut them out my problem is no matter how I try and wire up the horn when I attempt to connect the harness the horn blows something appears to be wrong in the way it is wired what is the correct way to wire up the horn running all new wires need help this is driving me crazy
