Re: 1962 stepside project by realvc
I've been dealing with a leaking wheel cylinder thinking I had cross threaded the steel brake line and would have to replace the line and may be the wheel cylinder.
After getting the truck back up on the lift to where I could check it out I removed the line and it looked O.K. so I put it back on bled the brakes. I cleaned up everything and left it up on the lift so I could keep an eye on it during the day. It turned out to be the wheel cylinder leaking inside the drum, running down the backing plate and the brake fluid dripping onto the rim and runs down the sidewall of the tire. The outside of the backing plate stays dry around the bleeder and brake line connection. Ordered a new wheel cylinder under warranty. I'm getting a lot more drum brake experience than I really wanted.
