Advice Please (Carrier bearing)

I think I know the answer but any help will confirm my thoughts.
I pulled the drive shaft out today. (double shaft long bed) and found the carrier bearing housing rubber distorted.
But my main concern is the spline for the u joint yoke. The groves appear to be worn beyond use. The yoke came out OK with a bearing puller however the bearing was very diffucult to remove.
Is the shaft now useless ?or can a new spline be welded on?
If so what are possible costs to repair and what should I know to make sure it is done right.
Thanks Hope the pictures tell the story.
