Uh-oh, I think I lost my title!

I bought my truck a few months ago, and still have not registered it...I'm waiting to finish my work on it before I do that seeing as its just sitting in my backyard.. BUT, I think I've misplaced the title in thr process. I dont know how I can liscense it now. The truck was dontated to the Union Gospel Mission, where I bought it. I think the previous owner died, so there's no getting hold of him. There was no paperwork done other than me getting the signed over title from the mission- it was a quick easy cash for title trade.. So without a title, what can I do if I cant find the title? Am I screwed?
