My Grandfather worked at International Harvester, for most of his career as a production engineer. I remember at the age of 6 or seven, his giving me a big cardboard-backed picture book with color die-cut punch-outs of Harvester trucks. Put-Tab-A-into-Slot-B, and you had a fleet of Bread Vans, Travell-alls, Pickups and Crew Cabs... Cardboard trucks didn't last long but were a lot of fun on the rug for a rainy afternoon at the Grandparent's.
I had forgotten all about the I-H Travellette.
He was about 86 when I bought an Orange Chevy Stepside. Broke his poor heart. I had seen a couple of Harvester trucks -- I had said on the phone [now 23] -- but they wad been worked hard already [and put up wet.] Their gearing was way too low for inter-urban LA, even then.
The Body by Fischer look of the 68 Stepside had me in its spell.
