Vacuum gauge from 66 Oldsmobile how to remove the needle and mount screws?

I lucked out and found an Oldmobile vacuum gauge and was planning to make the modification to my cluster but I can not seem to get the needle off or the tiny little nuts off that mount it. Anyone done the modification and can share the tricks? I dont want to damage the needle or mounting nuts. I have an electronics repair kit and the mini socket 3.0 almost fits and the 3.5 is too big.

I saw this in Chevyrestoguys thread (his pic above) and I did send him a PM but if anyone else has a how to on both the issues I mentioned please let me know.

Here is the spot in his build thread that shows how he did it.
