My grandson was around 3-4 and he kept getting too close to the glass on our gas fireplace insert. Hey buddy, that's hot, be careful. It was constant whenever he came over, hey that's hot! One time he reached out with his finger and just barely touched it, let out a cry, looked at me holding his finger. I told you that it was hot didnt I? Nods head yes, are you going to touch it again? No .. Why not? Hot grandpa!

For the longest time he gave that thing a wide berth whether it was on or off. He would just look at it and say Hot Hot.

He's almost ten now and loves to drag the giant ottoman close (but not too close haha) over by the fireplace when its chilly. Lays there and watches TV and enjoys the warmth.
