Great tuning tips for Edlebrock 1406 carb!
In my 30 years of working with Edelbrock carbs, this is the best tuning information I've seen. https://www.vintage-mustang.com/thre...k-carb.812713/ Go down the page and start reading the post by 1969sag.
I never really thought of 1406 jetting this way, but have almost always ended up with richer primary main jet/metering rod combo. Checking my notes I see that I've used #18 and #23 on the 1406 calibration chart, both of which are richer in cruise and power modes. Looks like a good place to start would have been the "stock" 1405 calibration, like the article suggests. So, make your 1406 a real performer like the 1405. And probably get rid of any bogs and hesitation you're experiencing. This info is intended to help those who are already using a 1406, so please don't turn this thread into an Edelbrock vs. Holley vs. Q-jet debate. Thanks. Edit: I see where the newer AVS2 650cfm manual choke and electric choke carbs (1905/1906) both use the same calibrations. But I'm not sure if that's for economy or performance. I need to dig into that. Could be the 1405 was never CARB certified by California, but the 1406 was. I'd appreciate any comments about that.
