Gas gauge issues

Hello all,
72 C/10 350 mostly stock
I am having some problems with my gas gauge. It show empty, I took it up and filled the tank, as near as I can tell, and it is still on empty. I have the key on and when I unhook the gas ga wire from the fuse block, the needle moves all the way over to past full. Is that telling me something?
