Here's the long story: The 71 K20 I got from Dean was starting hard in the morning, and when it did start it was running rich because I flooded it trying to start it. I verified choke adjustment, and carb settings everything good. Well after helping a buddy w/ his 58(someone had fun w/ the ignition switch and internally regulated alt) I got to thinking is the coil getting the voltage at start up. Well with the key in run, I had 5 V on the + terminal of the coil, had my wife try and start it while measuring voltage and only 8 V. I then jumpered from the + of the battery to the + of the coil with my wife turning it over and still would not start. I then had her giggle the key in the ignition(jumper removed) and the meter voltage jumped up to 9 V(not start) then I told her to hit it and the meter jumped to 12V and the truck fired right up. I'm talking in the matter of 10 minutes all this happened and it fast idled smoothly, and no black smoke. Talk about needing a woman's touch. Time to replace the ignition switch.
