carb linkage

My 69 K20 has the hard linkage to the carb. I need the linkage that connects to the carb to be about 3" longer.

The rod is right about 10" long and 1/4" diameter but it is a fine thread and I haven't found anything like it yet. Needs to be about 13" or so long.

I see a couple options assuming I can't find a connector and some all-thread to lengthen it:

1. Cut it and weld in a piece of rod in the middle to keep the end thread correct.

2. Tap the piece it goes into to 5/16" and use a piece of 5/16" all thread.

Let's here some suggestions or other recommendations. As always cheaper better but don't want to end up looking like a hack job.
