DIY Windshield Installation

I am looking for recommendations on installing a windshield in a 68 C-10. The service manual (37 years old) says to install the gasket to the glass with sealer, wait for it to cure and then install into the opening. The LMC catalog says to install the gasket in the opening and then install the glass. Are silicones or urethanes recommended to seal the gasket to the glass or opening to prevent water leaks? When I restored a 65 Vette 20 years ago I was told to use white grease as a sealer between the gasket and the opening.
Thanks
