door handles what to do?

I am wondering if any body has changed there door handles to a later model?
I need to replace the passenger side as it no longer works and both are showing their age. The last couple of days there has been a post on the new ones pitting, in under a year. so my thought and probably many others why not install a later model like 83 and up. And I am not willing to shave them and go to door popers as I am not that cool.
so who has done this?
and what are the details if you are willing to share.
I have tried the search feature but no luck.
