Power steering box interchangability?
Hey guys!
I've got a couple questions about power steering equipment here. Ok, first off, I heard that you are able to swap power steering boxes between 2wd and 4wd trucks, is this true? My 74 Chevy has power steering, but it is WAY too touchy for my liking, and I'd like to put the power steering box from my 79 4x4 chassis onto the 2wd 74, then move the power steering pump from my 80 GMC 2wd to the 79 4x4 chassis. The reason for swapping the 80's box to the 79, then the 79 to the 74 is because the 4x4 will be getting a serp pump, and the serp's connections to the PS box requires an o-ring, which the 80's has, but not the 79. And the reason for moving the 79's to the 74 is becuase then the fittings from the 74's pump will bolt right in, and the 74 will have better steering control (I hate the full boost, I need to be able to feel the road a bit) The other question is this: Someone suggested that the difference between the steering systems was in the power steering pump rather than the power steering box, is this true?
