396 with 3 speed

I have a chance to get a 396 but I still have my 3 speed columnn (std) in my truck. I plan on changing it to a m22 or a richmond 5 but was wondering was there ever this option before that I will be able to even attempt it? I was wondering on the "z" bar and headers mainly.
I don't use my truck often but I do still will need it and don't want it sitting for too long. I am looking if anyone can get me some pics of their setup and suggest any type of headers I could use. I'm not into the resto so aftermarket parts will be great. I already have an idea for mounts(someone posted a set on here not too long ago) but have doubts on that 3 speed working until I blow it up.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
