It takes a lot of torque to move these trucks. If you don't want to run premium fuel why not go for a smaller big block 454 or 402 etc. I run my 402 on regular gas and get about 12 mpg. Small block can produce lots of HP but low end torque is what you really need. Needless to say my vote is Big Block all the way!!
