Oldraven & others.......Please respond to this post...
Let's get back into this....(referring to your post #53 in THIS THREAD stating: "And it seems a lot of people forget that hot rodding really got its' start with an air cooled 4-pot 1.6L VW. It was RWD, but it also had 40 odd hp to start with.")
I'm listening. Explain to me your reasons for saying this and please provide some kind of factual data to back this up. I am real curious as to how you are going to attemp to rewrite the entire history of hotrodding as we know it to prove that the VW started everything. How they were there before they were hoppin' up Model A 4 bangers, Flathead V8-60/85 & 100's. Before they were droppin' OHV Caddy, Buick & Olds V8's into lightweight cars... Before they yanked the old Firepower, Fireflight & RedRam Hemi's out and did the same thing. Before the Hudson Hornet's were tearin' up the tracks. And god forbid we forget about the SMALL BLOCK CHEVY !!!! My post #55 "HUH?!?!?! ![]() In your post # 66, you reply by saying: "I'm sure some few guys were doing something like this, but I'd hardly call that the beginning of the Hot Rod scene. There was a huge, almost cult, group of enthusiasts squeezing power from VWs in the early days of rodding. Taking an otherwise vanila grocery getter and making a street peeler out of it. Not much different than what these guys are doing now with Golfs, Civics, and Cavaliers." Ya ever hear of James Dean? Talk about a "cult"... I am not bashing the VDubs, they run. A buddy of mine has a Corrado with a bus turbo runnin 18 psi of boost through it. Nasty car... OldRaven, I anxiously await your response. If anyone else decides to chime in, please keep it clean and to the point. I'm not trying to stir up a pot of crap, just get some "FACTS" straight...
