Hey man, i saw in the towing thread you were asking about towing the huge pontiac to Tx...
I would BUY a tow bar. They are $100 at wall mart in the RV section. It is built by Reece, and is a tough MO-FO. (NOTE the price is as of one year ago) I towed my 69 GMC from Texas to Ohio with it behinde a 20 foot Penske truck. Then i towed an '88 Ranger to the Junk yard with it...I got $75 bucks for it instead of the "we'll come and take it off your hands for you" (quote from local junk yards to come and get the ford) Then, we towed a big heavy @ss Longhorn from Eastern PA to Columbus Ohio. I have also towed my dad's lincoln, and my sister's Festiva. (or is it a fiesta...I get the 2 confused) Point is, it was money in the bank by purchaseing it. It is only rated for 3000 poinds, but if you streach the arms to where it bolte to the frame rails (it can be a real b!tch) then it'll tow anything...at least a Longhorn for 400-and-some-odd miles. For tail lights, I have used a traier light kit that I bolted to the bumper and then wired to the tralier light plug, and then on the Longhorn trip, I wired the trailer plug into the actual tail lights on the longhorn. I just unplugged it from the firewall on the longhorn, and using femail spaid crimp on connectors, plugged them all in. It was pretty slick, looked like there was no one driving it, but the brake lights would come on! Best thing is, when you get done and throw in in the garage/basement/shed, you can brake it down to almost nothing. Here is how it was towed from PA to OH. Being we were way over the towing limit of the K/5, it was honestly a white knuckle trip. I'm still not sure which truck was in charge. I can post more pics, and take any detailed pics you may need.
