Frantz oil filter ,or not???

Recently bought a fairly clean and solid 67 GMC 3/4 ton 2 w/d longbed
w/ 305 V-6 & 4-speed. Prev. owner had installed a Frantz "toilet paper"
oil filter. I don't have a great deal of experance/knowledge with that
filter setup. I've heard that back in their day, a better filter could not
be bought. However today's toilet paper is now much too soft, scented,
mushey,foo-foo etc. to be used as an oil filter. Has anyone had any good
or bad experances with this oil filter that they would like to share with me?

Also, does anyone know of an oil filter made that would take the place of
the roll of toilet paper and still fit inside the Frantz canaster?

Thanx for all replies.
