Lower Control Arm Shaft Replacement

Ok, I bought new lower control arm shafts and went to the shop to put them in. As I read the instructions that came with them, it said to be sure to make sure the indent was at the right end. It did not say what was right. I looked at my old control arms and the driver's side had the indent towards the rear while the passenger's side had the indent towards the front. Considering everything else on my front end had been jacked by a PO, I am not sure I should take that as correct. Does anyone know how they are supposed to go? The pictures below show the indent I'm talking about and the mounting surfaces. I really do not know the purpose of the indent. Any help would be appreciated.
Picture of the shaft...indent is too the left (if pic is not too dark)

Where the rear U-bolt goes on driver's side.

Where the front U-bolt goes on driver's side.

The lower control arms I cleaned up.
