It's heart will beat again
Well after what seems like a long truckless winter my old GMC's heart will beat again. It had the front end destroyed by an ahole kid that thought he was the road warrior and a week later the camshaft lost a lobe and pretty much laid waste to my small block. After pulling the engine, tearing it down and sending the parts to the machine shop I was told it was due for just about everthing so that's what she got.
I had it bored 30 over and torque plate honed, line bored, decked and balanced. I used flat top hypereutectic pistons with coated skirts and pretty much new everthing else including a true roller chain, high volume pump and roller tiped rockers. It has a Z28 oil pan and windage tray from it's last rebuild 10 years ago that I had powder coated along with a stock set of valve covers and the timing cover. The heads are 194's that were gone through and treated to a 3 angle valve job. My old intake had suffered a bit of corrosion so instead of repairing it I threw on a new 2101 performer. The q-jet was professionally rebuilt 2 years ago but I refreshed it with new gaskets and a clean up. It has an HEI with an MSD blaster coil, crane adjustable vac advance and a MSD 6A box. All parts and brackets were cleaned and/or blasted and repainted and most fasteners replaced with stainless. I had my TH 350 rebuilt as well. I hope to drop it in tomorrow and then I'll scab together a front clip till I can put my new body on it later this summer. For now I need it to work for it's keep around the acreage. Looking good will have to come a little later. The engine was real strong prior to failure even with about 90,000 miles on it so it should be a real strong performer all freshend up and with higher compression. Some day I hope to ditch the 194 heads and put on a set of L98 aluminum heads I have and then retire it from it's "working" life.
