what now- tick tick tick

on the first short road trip (150 miles) since the swap/assembly, my truck started ticking.

the background: it has a sb 350 (from a 72 donor) with 35k since the last rebuild. edlebrock cam & manifold, roller tip rockers, n'stuff.

the problem: lifter ticking.
I pulled the v-cover and found #3 intake rocker was loose. the nut was in the same location on the stud as the rest. I tightened the nut about 2 1/2 turns (3/4 past zero lash) to get the tapping to quiet but the nut is way down on the stud.

the question: did a lifter collapse? is it going to get noisy again? will I have to replace the lifter? and what other parts might get damaged if I wait?
please advise.
thanks
jones
