Tank Sealer and Sending Unit Float

I had to replace a sending unit float in my son's 72 C20 this weekend. I had three spare used sending units on the shelf. When I checked, two of the three had gas in the floats. I am thinking about dipping the float and part of the arm in fuel tank sealer, prior to installing the next one. Other than making sure the sealant is cured prior to installation, are there any problems with doing this? Has anyone else tried this and had problems?
