Exclamation Tahoe brake lights

The brake lights on my 1998 Tahoe are not working properly. The brake lights will work when the pedal is barely pressed but when more pressue is applied to the brake pedal, they go out. My husband put in a new sensor and this fixed the problem but now it has been less than a month and the sensor has gone out again. My daughter happened to be in a vehicle behind me when they quit working this time and it happened after I had to stop quickly. It wasn't a screeching halt or anything, just unexpected kind of stop. Any suggestions on what might cause this and how to fix it?
