Spare parts? What are they?

Hello gang,
I had to stop my my engine redo 3 years ago because of my wonderful newborn. He's getting trained on shop tools now so it won't be long before he's under there turning wrenches with me (He, he - can't wait).

But seriously, I had a guy helping me do the engine restoration. When he gave the engine back to me for installation, there was a box of parts, to put on the engine once it was re-installed in the truck.

Well, since I have most everything back on, there are a few pieces I can not identify.

Lookie here:

what are rod "A" and bracket "B" used for?

Also, this is not an original coolant overflow bottle. Can anyone I.D. it from another car?

Thanks for your help
