Frame Pictures - What is this?

This is a picture of the frame of my '72 GMC. The braket is located on the left side behind the transmission cross member. What is the purpose of this bracket?

And now a few more pictures because everybody loves pictures.

Yesterday morning I had rolling chassis.

And this evening it was just the frame. (That is my helper in the picture with the frame. This truck will probably be his someday.)

I plan on doing some cleaning/degreasing tomorrow. There are still a few more parts to remove also. Mostly brake lines and the e-brake cable.

Yep, this is the same truck in my avatar.
