Rotten Gas

I bought my truck knowing it had some rotten gas in the tank. I know I can dump out the gas but how do I clean the tank and what do I clean it with. Someone told me hot soap and water with some small stones to act as an abrassive to break up the varnish from the rotten gas. Has anyone else run into this problem and if so how did you fix it. I know I can buy a new tank but I hate to spend the money on it. I guess I could buy one used if I can find one. Any recomendations on this?
