Another fuel gauge problem!

I just looked through past threads about fuel gauge problems and didn't find an answer to this one, so here goes...

I'm about halfway through rewireing the C-10 with the Painless kit. No problems, so far. Except I wanted to check all the dash gauges before I put it back in.

Took fuel gauge out of bezel, went to back of truck, attached it directly to the sender from the poly Blazer tank, grounded the faceplate of gauge and sender to ground on battery. Applied B+ to gauge. Pointer swung over to about 4 o'clock (waayy past full!). Took out sender, moved float from bottom to top and pointer only moved about 1/2".

Sender shows 0 ohms with float at bottom, around 100 ohms at top.

One last thing....C-10 was originally a 6, had original tank in cab. PO replaced 6 with 350. Later, I added the poly tank.

Is there a difference between a 6cyl sender and an 8cyl one?

Anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks,
