Starter Solenoid

Today after eating lunch the truck didnt start, I went back after school and it started right up. When I tried at lunch it would just sit there and sping as if the starter was not ingageing. I heard that it is because it gets too hot, what is the best way to fix this? Has anyone done a remote solenoid install? and how did you do it? Or what did you do to sheild it from the heat of the headers?
