lowering a 71 3/4 ton LWB

I've got a 71 3/4 ton "Camper Special" long bed, it was my fathers-who bought it new. Now I own it, have pulled the camper off and now I want to lower the rear of the truck-just so it sits level, and make it a softer ride. Can I use a set of 1/2 ton springs in place of the 3/4 ton springs? Also does any one make a full wiring harness to drop a vortec engine into an old carbuerated truck?? Thanks!!!
