Post Time to put 'er in gear? It's been 5 years . . .

Ok, there is a very remote chance that I will finish my brake-overhaul on saturday. If that happens, I will be VERY tempted to throw the ole' beast in gear and see if it moves (it hasn't moved for 5 years).

What, if anything, should I do with the transmission before I attempt a short drive forward? I know the truck was well-maintained up until the time it was parked in 1997, so the trans. fluid would not have been old at that time. I also know that the transmission worked without any trouble up until that time.

I have never done any transmission work before, so rebuilding it would probably be out of the realm of possibility at this time.

I really hope the board will suggest that I just drop it in gear and see what happens!!

Oh, it's a '67 C10 with a 3 on the tree.

Thanks for your suggestions!
