Well guys, one of my winter projects was to change out my rear axle gears. I put an axle from a '69 Chevelle in my truck so that I was able to use camaro rear discs! The axle is a 10 bolt, 8.5". Originally, the axle was setup for the drag strip and accordingly had 4.88 gears!!!!! yep, 4.88!!!! Well, my first summer of driving my fresh restoration was interesting.... I managed to pull some great hole shots at red lights, but cruising at 3500 - 4000 wasn't too much fun.... so, i've got a set of 3.73's from Richmond and so far, i've totally disassembed the rear axle... no big deal... I'm now staring at a posi carrier on the bench, with a new gear on it, and a pinion gear. Now what!?!?
Does anyone have a good how to article on how to setup this axle. I ran into a
couple of articles, but nothing really detailed on how to set the pinion depth and backlash, etc... any thoughts!
