Interesting day!

Looked at my buddy's latest buy--a 1969 GMC SWB original truck. Very basic 6cyl 3speed stick in the rare 69 Maroon color with white top. The cab and doors were originally white painted maroon on the lower section. The windshild mirror was missing but looking at the inner roof, it did not have the raised area for the old bolt on style rear view mirror so one might think this is a 72 cab. It did not have the vent on the door jam by the vin plate! So what the heck cab is this??
Well we went junkyard looking all day and came upon another maroon 69 chevy truck. It has the exact same paint job with the maroon over a white cab/doors. The cab was identical without the raised area for the screw in mirror mount!!
Both trucks showed to be original in every respect and matched their build sheet in the glove box. Wish I knew somone who worked in the plant that built these buggers and could explain what they did and why.
