Power Steering Control Valve same as 63-82

I called Melrose T-Top International, who specializes in corvette parts. I heard in another thread that this is the same power steering control valve as the 67 power steering on our trucks. The guy that answered said that it isn't the same and he wouldn't let me send mine in as a core, and he wouldn't want me to install one and have it fail on me. He said to jack the truck up and move the wheels back and forth by hand and that will show me where the problem is, cus i don't know how to tell if the PSCV is even bad or not. I've been turning the steering wheel back and forth in the play, which is extremely excessive. What do you guys think?
