FIRE!! Lucky me!!

Yup. Just a note before I begin; make sure your fire extiguishers are charged. Cause mine wasn't and I almost lost my blazer.

I was out with the fam(all 6 of us) on a leisurly afternoon ride with the top off 2 weeks back and went to dinner. On the way home it sounded as though I was getting pre-ignition pops out of the carb. I know the timing was correct because I just recently timed it. It was rock solid. The pops were coming about every minute. I stopped twice to see what the heck was happening. We weren't far from home. I saw nothing. The blazer was running great! Just this phantom pop. And then the engine quit. I imediately pulled over and smoke began to poor out from under the hood. First things first! The wife and kids out and away. I then attended to the blazer. I lifted the hood and found the distributer in total flames. I quickly grabbed the fire extinguisher pulled the pin and let her rip. Nice! It farted a quick poof out and that was it. It was totally dead. I then resorted to the kitty litter for possible oil droppings. Still the blaze continued. I then began to throw handfulls of sand from the side of the road on her. After that I could do nothing more. I wasn't helping. I sat back and kissed her good bye. It was then that the neighbor came out with a correctly charged fire extinguisher and put her out. That's why the title reads "Lucky Me".

... Needless to say that guy got a case of beer and a new fire extinguisher the next day...

So... long story short. I lost the distributer, plug wires, the loom over the top of the firewall. Outside of that there wasn't much damage. So here's my question for you guys. WHAT THE HECK COULD HAVE HAPPENED?????!!!!!!!! Also, what should I be thinking about when I go to repair her. Is there anything else I should look for??

Thanks guys. I know you feel my pain. Oh, and I'd love to show you some pics but I forget how to do that. Can someone send me the link to the pic post thread?

Thanks again.. Sorry this was so long.
Drew
