4.3 v6 ?

Did any of the early 4.3s come in a non-computer controlled configuration? I know some of the ones from ~1985 found in the trucks/astro vans were carbeurated, but did they have any sort of ECM? I'm looking to do a swap into an early 1st gen s10 which has no provisions for an ecm (my 2.8 is dying, partially spun bearing thanks to AAA roadside), and I'd get rid of the truck before using a v8. (another 2.8 is out of the questions, too much $$$ for a high-mile failure prone used engine) I was wondering what it'd take to adapt a 4.3 to use the early carbed induction system assuming there was a version that also used no ECM
