Heater core removal with factory air?

First off, Thanks to all members on this board. I just completed a frame off restoration with my 16 year old son on a 71 shorty (his first truck). We started with zero mechanical ability and with the help of this board we were able to by parts, learn to weld, paint and generally fix everything.
We put her on the road today, passed state inspection with raves and lots of compliments. It felt great.
anyway on our maiden voyage the heater core blew. do I remove this from inside the cab. It has factory ac?
