Wiring Help Needed for Gauge Cluster Upgrade
I'm going from the old standard gauge cluster (fuel gauge, speedo, idiot lights) to the gauge cluster with the temp., oil, vacuum and battery gauges. It also has a tach. The oil and vaccum gauges are mechanical and I've got them figured out. Fuel gauge and speedo are okay too. The temp. and battery gauges are the problem. I've burned up two printed circuits so far. It could be that it's touching some metal on the steering column behind it. My idea is to tape some construction paper behind the printed circuit to eliminate any possible contact. I think that will work. The battery gauge was working for about 20 minutes before the second one fried. I think the temp gauge should work now that I have the correct temp. sender. The original was just a switch type that talks to an idiot light. I was unaware there was a difference. The turn signals work great until I turn the headlights on and then everything flashes. Even the high beam indicator. I've been told that I need to check my ground. All things considered, I think I'm close to having it right. It's taken some time to compare the back of the clusters and switch some of the wires in the 12 pin plug. Stupid me!!! I thought I could just unplug the old and plug in the new. If anyone has a diagram or knows which pin the different colors go in, I'd appreciate a reply. I just don't want to spend another $40.00 on another printed circuit.
Thanks, Greg
