Rocker Panel ?

I know..do the search...I did but not the answer I was looking for.

I bought inner and outer rockers from GMCPauls. Removed the right side and went to install the inner, everything looked good. Installed Outer tacted it in place. Now there is a 3/4 gap from the inner and outer in the door opening where the chrome strip goes. Is it suppose to be like that? the bottom of the two pieces line up. (BTW does the bottom inner and outter rocker need to be welded together?

This is my first rocker replacement so don't through rocks at me.
