My 70 buildup
Trying to kill some time here at work so I thought I would share my current project. It started out with a 79 blazer that I have wheeled for the past year or so. It got beat up pretty good and I ended up breaking the windshield so I decided to do something that I had been wanting to do for a while. That is drop a truck cab on it. I love the 67-72 body style and miss my 69 suburban that I had a few years back. So I picked up a 70 chevy parts truck and started combining them.
Here is how they looked before I tore them apart. Here is the frame of the blazer with its new body sitting on it. I also transplanted the tilt column, hydroboost, and complete wiring harness from the blazer. I still need to convert the steering shaft to ujoints. I wanted to narrow the front part of the sheetmetal a bit. I had done this on the blazer and I liked both the look and the more that I could see around the front from sitting in the drivers sit. So I started hacking at the sheetmetal. After many hours I ended up with this. 12" was taken out of the front part of the hood. And here is one with the grill shortened and mocked up. Since I killed the radiator support I needed to do something to hold the front of the fenders and the radiator. Dont worry, this wasnt a rust free cab. It needed new rockers and cab corners. So I replaced it all with 2x3 steel. Needed a place to sit so that I could one day drive it. Thats it for now. Im hoping to have it out of the garage this weekend. Well see how that goes. So what do you think?
