Bittersweet Day in Athens, AL
READ THIS!!! I know it's a lot and I typically ignore long and boring threads, but I can be made fun of for this
Well, the day started out nice. Been working on the truck for the past two weeks trying to get it ready to go to this show. It's over 1200 cars and it's a real nice show. Got the serpentine system up and running and installed the Taurus electric fan(actually Igotachevyor2 did most of the work, if not all). It's about 135 miles from my house, just over the AL line. Got there in 2 hours and the truck ran great. Got a little hot for my taste, but never climbed over 205 degrees. Saw a lot of nice cars and trucks(see below) and of course got to hang out with one of the coolest board members of all time, a few 72s and his better half, Deb. Well, on the way back the temp gauge got around 210-215 degrees. Of course it's a hotter time in the day (4 pm) so I understood. My wonderful wife went with me and we're just south of Nashville, maybe a mile from the city limits when she looks over and says, "look at your temp gauge!" It read 240 degrees, so I about sideswipe a car next to me to get off the interstate. I get out and pop the hood and dried radiator fluid is pretty much on everything on the passenger side of the motor. My electric fan is not running, the fuse in the fusible link is blown, and the fan will not move freely at all. One of the little ziptie things that hold the fan on is gone completely and one of them is sizzling. So it looks like my radiator sprang a leak right at one of those ziptie things. I let it cool down a little and drive another mile to get off I-65. Called my GREAT Hagerty roadside assistance and they towed it for free, since I was only 38 miles from my house. The funny thing was I brought a bunch of stuff to the show to sell. Two things in particular that didn't sell I will NOW be needing. I will be keeping my fan shroud and my reverse rotation fan that chickenwing sent me. Some, if not all, of this is my fault. I still have the old 2 row radiator in the truck because it was originally a 6 cyl. I was going to change it out before the show, but didn't have the funds. This line is for cableguy-I know, you told me it was going to happen!!! Here are some pics from the show, I took a pic of EVERY 67-72 that was there, besides my POS. I meant to get a pic of it on the wrecker, but didn't get a chance.
