67-68 stainless Grill Mesh - been a while
Ok--- I am near done with my grill mesh. If I find a right angle drill small enough to drill about 6 more 1/8" holes I will add them. To make my mesh one piece, I also started my inside hood release project - I will be using an 88 hood release assembly from LMC - Part # 31-1450. You will see my temp opener pics. Also added piece for the future cable attachment --- I will probably add another clamp piece for the release cable once I get the 88 hood release and ponder it.
I used 1/8" hole mesh with .032 stainless wire size for my grill insert on my 67. Larger holes and thicker wire may look as good or better but a larger wire size will be more difficult to work with. The mesh dimensions is 50.5" x 10.25" for complete coverage. I used my spare TX grill to trial fit the mesh. If you have your grill out -- put some spare 1/8" holes about every 4" in the back side for possible future use. A pair of good tin snips will cut the.032 mesh. A spring type clip works well for the bottom and side fasteners along with a strap clamp and existing rear support holes. I do not plan on putting the oem back support in - may change my mind and later modify the support. Will keep the mechanism lubricated. I have enough material left for 3 more grills and I still need a good SM420. More pics coming when I finish the inside hood release. |
