Stupid Small Engine Q

hey guys, i have a 16 hp tecumseh in my attex sixwheeler. so i was getting it ready for winter and since the ignition key had been shocking me and not turning it off (i had to floor it choked to kill it) i got a new one. i put a wire going into the side of the eingine on the ignition terminal, a wire going to the selenoid to the start terminal, and one from BAT to the battery. and left the accesory terminal empty. now the thing is, if i disconnect the ignition wire it starts and runs fine, but wont turn off. if i connect the ignition wire then it doesnt get spark when the engine is turning over, it just gets spark when the key is in the OFF position? so basically it starts and runs fine, it just wont turn off, unless i connect the ignition wire. so is this wire going into the engine supposed to get 12 volts to turn the enigne off? or is something inside the engine messed up. all the wired in the engine go in this black box (where the magnet is to sense the flywheel. so does anybody have a manual, or know anything about this? there is also a big red wire that is the charge wire, and that is hooked up. but that is all the wires in the engine. so whats up????? thanks!, Ben
