My dilemma

Heres A "what would you do in my shoes" Thread

I have a 72 longbed that i picked up almost 5 years ago, intending to do a full frame off restoration. I chose the truck because it is solid, with the exception of a crappy patch job on one of the rockers and one section of the floor about the size of a license plate (I say this because somebody welded a license plate down to fix it ).

When i bought the truck, the owner had "lost" the title, but he had the bill of sale from when he bought it 7 years earlier, so we filled out all the necessary paperwork, had it notarized, no big deal.

so i thought

Turns out, the truck had not been registered in so long, that the DMV cannot find any record of it (most DMV's purge their records after so many years), therefore they will not issue me a title unless I give them $5k (bonded) that they will hold for three years, although they still let me register it in my name

Herein lies my dilemma.

I'm finally ready to tear it down (I have a SWB frame lined up, and most of the new parts required to put it back together), and since i will be swapping frames, i cant decide wether i should just ditch the cab and find one that has a valid title, or stick with it since it is registered in my name, and i only need a title to sell it.

It's a tough decision because of the condition of the cab, and i often joke about finding a cab with a title, and just swapping the VIN plate and registering it as a different cab

i'm not sure if i should sink any more money into a truck i may never hold a title to

opinions, and insight are greatly appreciated
