How To Flat Resto Rod/Pin Stripe

Over the years I've always liked the still in progress looks. I've always had respect for the guys that just do it. I'll admit in the past some of my cleaner trucks were ones that I bought near completion with some of my attitude mixed in. This time im restoring my 68 from the ground with my son Keanu and he like myself really like the the work in progress look similar to the RAT RODS. Ive seen a lot of the led sleds, 50 and early 60's trucks have that look out here in Cali. Even the guys that drive them fit the part totally 50's and 60's. Anyways thats what I wanted to know what paints or primers are used for that look. I'm not sure what it is but they seem to hold up pretty good and flat bases with pinstipping are just a clean look. I figured by doing this I won't be so worried about scratching it up and use the truck for it's intended for to haul cool things in the bed....my chopper, grill, cooler, big screen, christmas tree....etc just in case my wife reads it Any insight and pics would be appreciated
