Freakin' Short

I think my dome light is the culprit. I have had the problem for over a month, but the other day the dome light stopped working. Question is this, how is the dome light wire likely routed to get back to the fuse box? I can see it at the light fixture, but don't know where it eventually comes out at so I can just change the wire out. Secondly, if that is my short, is changing the wire going to fix the problem? Thanks for the input.
