speedo problem

ok i posted a little while back about my speedo stoping at 85mph and asking why it wouldnt go over that, well i compared my speedo to my brothers truck a ford f-250 supercrew and found out that mine is about 5mph off from his so my question is, is the gears in the tranny the only thing controling the speed or is there gears in the speedo itself that could affect it, and could the gears in the tranny be the reason it doesnt count over 85mph??? o and just for refernce it went up to 85 and stayed then jumped to 90 and bounced around between them then went back to 85 and stayed, ok enough rambling

THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL HELP AND COMMENTS
